Bert McDowell Jr.

Bertram “Bert” McDowell Jr. is a trial attorney who handles a wide array of personal injury cases. He is a highly effective litigator who has attained successful results for victims of motor vehicle accidents, fire accidents, slip and falls, dog bites, wrongful death cases, and other injury matters.

Bert is no stranger to hard work and dedication, as he was raised by his mother, who is a retired New York City Police Officer. Bert uses those core values to effectively represent his clients. Over his career, Bert has continued to attain settlements far exceeding the insurance company’s initial offer. Bert credits a great deal of his success to his previous experience as an insurance defense attorney. His prior defense experience gives him greater insight on the value of cases, which allows him to maximize settlements and verdicts for the benefit of his clients. It also provides him with a deeper understanding of the tactics used by insurance companies.

In 2021, Bert was recognized as in 40 Under 40 Connecticut Magazine. In 2018, Bert was selected to the National Trial Lawyers Top 40 Under 40, and since 2018 he has been honored as a Super Lawyer Rising Star for four consecutive years. Bert prides himself on community service. He served on multiple boards for non-profit organizations and was previously a board member for a charter school in Hartford, Connecticut. In 2017, Bert was given the 100 Men of Color Award for his community service and for his stellar reputation in the legal community. In 2019, Bert was given the Man of Excellence Award from the organization, Black People Rocks.

Bert is admitted to practice at the United States District Court, District of Connecticut, as well as all the state courts in Connecticut.
